CNN anchor Anderson Cooper suggested Ivanka likes to sit quietly while her dad rages and then tries to distance herself from his comments.
Cooper said the first daughter will deploy the strategy in the wake of President Trump's assertion that American Jews who vote Democrat are disloyal to Israel.
"The theme of disloyal American Jews from this president continues," Cooper said at the top of his show Wednesday.
He snarked that Ivanka Trump, who converted to Judaism and married Jewish husband Jared Kushner, "must be very proud of her dad tonight." Cooper predicted that to save face, Trump will orchestrate a leak "in the coming days how she tried to talk her father — you know — to change that kind of the language. It’s a classic Ivanka move."
Cooper was referencing reporting about how it has become a "pattern" for Ivanka Trump to remain silent after her father says something racist or otherwise inflammatory, and then coordinate leaks for anonymously sourced stories about how she raised concerns about his behavior.
The latest controversy began Tuesday when Trump said Jewish people who vote for Democratic candidates were either ill-informed or disloyal. “I think any Jewish people that vote for a Democrat, I think it shows either a total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty," Trump told reporters at the White House.
Critics condemned the president for spreading what they view as an anti-Semitic stereotype.
Trump doubled down on the "disloyal" claim on Wednesday.
“In my opinion, the Democrats have gone very far away from Israel. I cannot understand how they can do that,” Trump said. “They don’t want to fund Israel. They want to take away foreign aid to Israel. They want to do a lot of bad things to Israel. In my opinion, you vote for a Democrat, you’re being very disloyal to Jewish people and very disloyal to Israel."
